Windle London

Hair salons can feel a little impersonal; you can be in and out in a flash, left with a slight sense that it’s been a one-style-suits-all experience. Not so at Covent Garden’s Windle London, a cult spot that feels like it really cares, and that prides itself on its high-quality product line, Windle Lab. You can actually feel the nourishment from these beautifully crafted concoctions (which are created by fusing cutting-edge techniques in the Windle Laboratory with expertise from the team of dedicated London stylists). All the more so if they’re in the hands of Sergio Renis, who joined the Windle team back in the noughties, bringing the artful confidence of countless fashion show stints to any session. Hair styling feels like an art form here, and V.F. was an all too willing canvas, settling in to be tousled to perfection among an effortlessly cool crowd. Come for the kind of low-key beach waves that are impossible to achieve at home (and leave with some brilliant products to help you keep trying). Windle London

La Nonna

Attention committed carb lovers! There’s a humble new Italian restaurant that pasta fans everywhere need to try as soon as possible. Situated in trendy Brixton Market lies low-key (but seriously impressive) La Nonna, with Roman-born chef Daniele Pino working his magic in the kitchen. Priding itself on fresh and unfussy food, La Nonna is known for serving fresh pasta (made in-house every day) in a kitsch take on an authentic Italian atmosphere, with pasta strainers for lights and black and white imagery of Nonna lining the walls. Alongside the classic family favourites, there’s a daily changing menu of dishes to try—rest assured, they are all delicious. V.F. started with the creamy smoked heart of the Burrata with Sardinian music paper bread, before moving onto the ravioli alla zucca mantovana (pumpkin, leeks and ricotta ravioli served with sage butter and 24-month parmesan) and a classic cacio pepe—which was so good we ordered two more. Every single dish is as moreish, so it was no surprise that the restaurant was full, and if the queue is anything to go by, we’d suggest booking now. We’ll be back pronto. See you there. La Nonna

20ml Sarsaparilla Syrup

50ml Freshly made decaf espresso

Method

1. Shake all the ingredients together

2. Double strain into a coupe glass
