Get more healthy with ADRA Whyalla News

The Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) are holding two events this weekend to help the Whyalla community eat healthy and develop a sense of comradeship.

A campfire singalong will be held on Saturday, with singer/guitarist Gavin Dagg bringing the tunes and local volunteer Louie Sy preparing delicious pizzas and soups to be served during the evening.

This will be followed by a plant-based healthy cooking demo the next day, featuring recipies with simple ingredients and easy to prepare and affordable meal plans.

ADRA Whyalla Coordinator Helen Hiscock said the weekend was shaping up to be a great one for the community.

“On Saturday we’re going to sit around the fire, sing and tell yarns, and just generally have a nice night,” she said.

“Then on Sunday we’ll have a cooking demonstration by a team from Port Lincoln – Gavin and his team will be using vegetables and fruit to make delicious food.”

Ms Hiscock said those attending would get recipies for healthy dishes along with some honey that would be sold on the day.

“There will be information shared about how to prevent diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol,” she said.

Volunteer Louie Sy encouraged residents to over-eat fruit and vegetables rather than over-eat meat, which he says could make you sick.

“I’ve not heard of someone getting sick from overeating fruit and vegetables,” he said.

The campfire singalong runs from 5:30pm-7:30pm on Saturday, while the health eating demo kicks off at 3pm on Sunday.
